Greets and Huggers. Posted the evening of June 2, 2017. I suffer from wet macular degeneration in my right eye. Susan drove me to the VA eye clinic this morning. Vision in the eye has deteriorated from 20/40 to 20/70. The retina specialist opined that it was time for another Avastin shot in my eye. He gave me one.
So being “gay” is unnatural? (BBC NEWS) — ‘Gay’ vultures become parents in Amsterdam zoo. “A Dutch zoo says two male vultures in a long-standing relationship have become parents after successfully hatching an egg. Staff gave the gay griffon vultures an abandoned egg, which they cared for in their nest for two months. Zoo keeper Job van Tol said the two fathers are “a very tight couple” and are doing the job perfectly. “We have had them for some years. They always build a nest together, bond and mate together,” he told the BBC. “But, as two males, the one thing they could not do was lay an egg.” So when staff discovered a lone egg that none of the other vultures would adopt, they first cared for it in an incubator, and then decided to place in the male couple’s nest. “It was a bit of risk as we had no guarantees of success, but we thought, finally, this is their chance,” said Mr Van Tol. Artis Amsterdam Royal Zoo said the new parents are very protective of their fast-growing chick, which is now 20 days old, and they have been breaking up its food to make it manageable to eat.” Interesting. “(B)uild a nest together, bond and mate together …” Don’t you wonder … when they “mate” … who decides who the “mator” is and who is the “matee”?
And speaking of the evolutionary background of human “mating”: (CNN) — Who orgasms most and least, and why. “More and more studies are shedding light on the “orgasm gap,” which refers to how men orgasm during sex more frequently than women. But why does this gender gap exist, and what can be done to achieve orgasm equality? After all, about 40% of women experience sexual dysfunction, associated with a chronic difficulty in achieving orgasm.” This is an absolutely fascinating article, well worth the read!!
How about that? (BBC NEWS) — Obamas buy $8.1m home in Washington DC. “The family of former US President Barack Obama has purchased the home they had been renting in Washington DC. The nine-bedroom, 8.5-bathroom stone mansion in the upmarket Kalorama neighborhood was sold for $8.1m, property records indicate. The Obamas are remaining in Washington until their youngest daughter, 15-year-old Sasha, finishes high school. The former first couple have been traveling the world since departing the White House in January.” Fact is: “Since 2001, the president has earned a $400,000 annual salary, along with a $50,000 annual expense account, a $100,000 nontaxable travel account, and $19,000 for entertainment. The most recent raise in salary was approved by Congress and President Bill Clinton in 1999 and went into effect in 2001.” And, as of 2015, (Obama lobbied to have a President’s retirement increased), leaving office, he will receive $203,700 per year for the rest of his life. Must be nice, after paying off student loan debt, a stint in the legislature and 8 years as President … to be able to buy an $8.1m dollar house. Sure proves the “American Dream” doesn’t it?
Live and learn. (CNN) — Some call it ‘stealthing,’ others call it sexual assault. “Some people call it “stealthing” — a practice where men secretly remove or damage condoms without their partners’ knowledge. Others call it sexual assault. But giving it an official name could be a major support for survivors of sexual assault, many of whom face an uphill battle in the legal system, according to an article in the Columbia Journal of Gender and Law. Taking action may also add a new layer to the ongoing discussion about consent and sexual assault, the author said.” How would you prove you are the victim of a “stealthing” attack? As a form of birth control, condoms are not 100% effective. “If you use condoms perfectly every single time you have sex, they’re 98% effective at preventing pregnancy. But people aren’t perfect, so in real life condoms are about 82% effective — that means about 18 out of 100 people who use condoms as their only birth control method will get pregnant each year.” (Whispering) … does the phrase “Assumption Of Risk” sound familiar?
Justice is a slow and steady steed. (CNN) — Former Penn State President Spanier gets jail time in Sandusky case. “The former president of Penn State University and two other former administrators were sentenced to jail terms Friday for failing to report a 2001 allegation that assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky was molesting young boys. The sentence of two months in jail plus another two under house arrest against a once-leading figure in American higher education marks a low point in the largely distinguished career of Graham Spanier, who was Penn State’s president from 1995 to 2011. He was found guilty in March of one misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child.” Obviously there is a moral obligation to report this kind of behavior ,,, but there is also a legal obligation enforceable with criminal sanctions? So … would Sandusky’s priest or lawyer also face criminal sanctions if they heard allegations??
Sitting here editing these Ramblings, having some difficulty focusing my right eye after the Avastin shot this morning. I have had 5 Avastin shots over the last couple of years. This is the first time I have had this level of discomfort! Other than Susan’s dialysis tomorrow, we will spend a quiet weekend at Ft Timmerman. Sunday Lunch and a Movie? Spare Ribs, Mashed Potatoes and Peas. The Movie? “Fist Fight ”
Time to post these Ramblings. Later … I will also say a prayer for the safe and soon return of our men and women in uniform, (care to join me?) I remain nicotine free. Be and sleep well, the best we have as a nation are on watch so you can. If my post offends, I apologize … that is certainly not my intent. As always …
A Warm Brotherly Hug
