Greets and Huggers. Posted the evening of August 11, 2017. It’s Friday evening again. Another week has rolled by. Summer is almost over: the fall semester for public schools started on Monday. The big news this week is the kafuffle between Trump and North Korea’s Jim Jong-un. (BBC NEWS) — Trump warns N Korea that US military is ‘locked and loaded’. “President Donald Trump says the US military is “locked and loaded” to deal with North Korea, ramping up the rhetorical brinkmanship. “Military solutions are now fully in place, locked and loaded, should North Korea act unwisely. Hopefully Kim Jong-un will find another path!” he tweeted. He spoke as Pyongyang accused him of “driving” the Korean peninsula to the “brink of a nuclear war”. North Korea has announced plans to fire missiles near the US territory of Guam. The Pacific island’s homeland security agency issued a fact sheet on Friday with tips for residents to prepare for any missile threat.” Talk about the proverbial “Mouse That Roared”! There is no way North Korea could survive a war with the US. They wouldn’t want to. If provoked, the US would clean North Korea’s plow … and afterward, if history teaches anything, we would go in and completely rebuild the country. Perhaps that is Kim Jong-un’s game plan?
When I was in my 20’s, the thought of a woman in her 60’s and 70’s having sex … would have grossed me out!! (BBC NEWS) — Three women over 60 talk honestly about their sex lives. “Three women over 60 have spoken openly to BBC Radio 5 live about their sex lives. Speaking to Emma Barnett, Joyce, aged 82, Shirley, 61, and Dee, 69, explained what sex is like as an older woman. This comes after a new survey conducted for BBC Radio 5 live which suggests that one in five people in their 60s have sex several times a month. The number stays relatively high even as people get older, with one in six people aged 70 or older claiming to have sex a few times a month or more.” Now, being 69, (and 70 in January) … geriatric sex doesn’t gross me out at all!! Interesting how your perspective changes as you age.
In the sports news: (BBC NEWS) — Dallas Cowboys’ Ezekiel Elliott suspended over domestic abuse. “Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has been suspended for six games after domestic violence incidents, the NFL announced. The move came after a yearlong league investigation into claims he abused his then-girlfriend in Ohio in 2016. Prosecutors decided not to charge Elliott, but the league’s inquiry found substantial evidence showing physical confrontations with his ex-girlfriend. The 22-year-old footballer has three days to appeal the decision. According to a statement by the National Football League (NFL), Elliott will be suspended without pay for “violating the league’s Personal Conduct Policy”. According to ESPN, the suspension also voids the guarantees in his four-year – nearly $25m contract – with the Cowboys … He may also be forced to forfeit other payments received from the team including over $1m in signing bonus pay.” Elliot will be suspended without pay for the team’s first six 2017 regular-season games. He will be eligible to return to the team’s active roster on Monday, October 23 following the Cowboys’ Sunday, October 22 game against the San Francisco 49ers. Since Susan is a rabid Football fan … no doubt she would find this interesting. As for me? I could care less.
In the “give me a break” news: (BBC NEWS) — Kansas doctor faces discipline over 13-year-old’s abortion. “A Kansas doctor is accused of breaking the law in his handling of an abortion on a 13-year-old girl, but he says he did not realize her age. A state board is weighing disciplinary action against Dr Allen Palmer over the procedure he carried out in 2014 at the women’s group Planned Parenthood. State law requires that fetal tissue from abortions on patients younger than 14 be preserved. Dr Palmer said he relied on staff to tell him the age of patients. Under state law in Kansas, abortions can be provided to children with parental consent.” He couldn’t tell he was dealing with a 13 year old? She must have been a really, really “early bloomer”! The father was 19. No mention as to whether he was charged with “Statutory Rape”.
The medical news: (BBC NEWS) — GM pigs take step to being organ donors. “The most genetically modified animals in existence have been created to help end a shortage of organs for transplant, say US researchers. The scientists successfully rid 37 pigs of viruses hiding in their DNA, overcoming one of the big barriers to transplanting pig organs to people. The team at eGenesis admits preventing pig organs from being rejected by the human body remains a huge challenge. But experts said it was a promising and exciting first step. The study, published in the journal Science, started with skin cells from a pig. Tests identified 25 Pervs – porcine endogenous retroviruses – hidden in the pig’s genetic code. Experiments mixing human and pig cells together showed those viruses could escape to infect human tissues. But the researchers then used the game-changing gene-editing technology Crispr to delete the 25 Pervs. Pig pervs are bad … human pervs are worse.
Sitting here editing these Ramblings, listening to the evening news. I usually listen to ABC at 5:30 and NBC at 6:00. It is amazing how both news organizations basically report the same “news”. It is almost like they were using the same script. Susan and I spent the day together in Biloxi, She went shopping at Hobby Lobby, while I had an appointment at the VA Complex. Yesterday morning, after a Xiaflex shot on Tuesday for Dupuytrens contracture on my left pinky, the cartilage cord was snapped, allowing my finger to straiten. When your Doc says, “This may sting a little.” Bring a change of socks! Have to wear a splint for a week. Sunday Lunch and a Movie? Air fried chicken tenders, (I have a Power AirFryer XL) … corn on the cob and a garden salad. The movie? “Max 2 White House Hero ”.
Time to post these Ramblings. Later … I will also say a prayer for the safe and soon return of our men and women in uniform, (care to join me?) Be and sleep well, the best we have as a nation are on watch so you can. If my post offends, I apologize … that is certainly not my intent. As always …
A Warm Brotherly Hug
