Greets and Huggers. Posted the evening of August 18, 2017. And the Presidential “Horse and Buggy Show” continues. That latest? (BBC NEWS) — Steve Bannon fired as Trump White House’s top strategist. “White House chief strategist Steve Bannon is the latest top aide of President Donald Trump to leave his post. Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed that Friday was his last day. His exit follows a review of his position by White House Chief of Staff John Kelly. Mr Bannon, a right-wing nationalist and former head of, helped shape the “America First” message of Mr Trump’s election campaign. But critics had accused the 63-year-old of harboring anti-Semitic and white supremacist views.” At some point, the infighting will stop   … I just hope it is sooner, rather than later. It is time to start governing.

And the stupidity isn’t limited to the White House. (BBC NEWS) — US lawmaker Chappelle-Nadal’s Trump assassination post investigated. “A Missouri lawmaker is being investigated by the US Secret Service for saying she hopes President Donald Trump will be assassinated. Democratic state senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal posted the comment on Facebook but later deleted it. The Secret Service has confirmed they are “looking into the comments” and say “all threats against the President” will be investigated. The senator says she was wrong to write the post but that she will not resign.” There have been calls for the senators resignation by a host of her colleges including US Senator Claire McCaskill, In response Ms Chappelle-Nadal insists she was exercising her right to free speech. “I refuse to resign for exercising my First Amendment rights, even though what I said was wrong,” she said.”

The natural history news: (BBC NEWS) — The algae that terraformed Earth. “A planetary takeover by ocean-dwelling algae 650 million years ago was the kick that transformed life on Earth. That’s what geochemists argue in Nature this week, on the basis of invisibly small traces of biomolecules dug up from beneath the Australian desert. The molecules mark an explosion in the quantity of algae in the oceans. This in turn fuelled a change in the food web that allowed the first microscopic animals to evolve, the authors suggest. “This is one the most profound ecological and evolutionary transitions in Earth’s history,” lead researcher Jochen Brocks told the BBC’s Science in Action program. The events took place a hundred million years before the so-called Cambrian Explosion, an eruption of complex life recorded in fossils around the world that puzzled Darwin and always hinted at some kind of biological prehistory. “And for my “creationist” friends, a video you may enjoy.

Exciting medical news! (BBC NEWS) — Plants ‘hijacked’ to make polio vaccine. “Plants have been “hijacked” to make polio vaccine in a breakthrough with the potential to transform vaccine manufacture, say scientists. The team at the John Innes Centre, in Norfolk, says the process is cheap, easy and quick. As well as helping eliminate polio, the scientists believe their approach could help the world react to unexpected threats such as Zika virus or Ebola. Experts said the achievement was both impressive and important. The vaccine is an “authentic mimic” of poliovirus called a virus-like particle. Outwardly it looks almost identical to poliovirus but – like the difference between a mannequin and person – it is empty on the inside. It has all the features needed to train the immune system, but none of the weapons to cause an infection. “ This is another step in biomedical engineering … training our immune system to identify and attack pathogens.

And the birth control news. (BBC NEWS) — The Swedish physicist revolutionizing birth control. “Inventing the first app in the world to be approved as a contraceptive started as a hobby project for Elina Berglund Scherwitzl. The nuclear physicist, who’d been working on the team that discovered the Higgs boson, was tired of using hormonal contraception but wasn’t ready to have a baby. So the Swede set about using her data skills to find an alternative. “Like many women I had tried many different contraception options since my teenage years and hadn’t really found a solution that fit me,” she explains. “It was in my quest for an effective natural alternative that I discovered that you can see when you’re fertile by your temperature, and for me that was really a revelation.” Using complex mathematics and data analysis, Mrs Berglund Scherwitzl began developing an algorithm designed to be so precise it could pinpoint exactly when in her cycle she would ovulate. This enabled her to map out the days when she would need to use protection, to a much higher degree of certainty than similar “rhythm” or natural planning methods. She was so pleased with the results that, together with her Austrian husband, fellow physicist Raoul Scherwitzl, she set about founding her own business called Natural Cycles.” You know what you call folks who use the “rhythm method” for birth control? Parents.

Sitting here editing these Ramblings, listening to the evening news. Did a 2.2 mile death march this morning. We have fallen into a routine: a death march every day Susan doesn’t have dialysis, (Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday), On the news? Another car based terrorist attack in Spain   …   removal of confederate statutes … and of course the Eclipse on Monday. A nice piece about getting dark glasses for our pets/livestock. Susan and I remain nicotine free! Sunday Lunch and a Movie?  Spaghetti with Meat Balls. The movie? “Origin Wars [2016]”.

Time to post these Ramblings. Later … I will also say a prayer for the safe and soon return of our men and women in uniform, (care to join me?) Be and sleep well, the best we have as a nation are on watch so you can. If my post offends, I apologize … that is certainly not my intent. As always …

A Warm Brotherly Hug
