I was born in Oldenburg, Germany on January 15, 1948, and became a naturalized United States citizen in Mineola, NY in 1965. I served in the United States Army from July 1967 to July 1970 and was awarded an Honorable Discharge. My education includes an A.A. from Penn Valley Junior College in 1975, a B.A. in Psychology from UMKC in 1977, an M.A. in Psychology from UMKC in 1982, and a J.D. from UMKC in 1982.
I was engaged in the solo practice of law from 1982 until I retired in 2015. I was admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, 8th Circuit Court of Appeals, 8th Circuit Western District Courts, 8th Circuit Western District Bankruptcy Court, Supreme Court of the State of Missouri and the Missouri Southern and Western District Courts of Appeal and all trial courts in Missouri.
My public service includes the past Vice-Chairmanship of the Solo and Small Firm Practice Committee (2002-2004), Chairman and founding member of the Solo and Small Firm Internet Group (SFIG), and I served on the planning committee for the Missouri Bar’s annual Solo and Small Firm Conference. I was a faculty member of the Continuing Legal Education section of the Missouri Bar, having taught other lawyers across the State of Missouri about changes in the law and changes in legal technology. I have served as Chairman of the Jackson County Mediation Advisory Committee and I assisted in the drafting of the mediation rules for Cass and Johnson Counties in Missouri. I have been a U.S. Postal Service approved mediator since 1998.
I resided in Holden from 1987 to 2015. I served two terms on Holden’s City Council and I have served as Holden’s City Attorney and Prosecutor. My wife Susan and I were members of St. Patricks Catholic Church, where I served as Eucharistic Minister and lector. I was a member of Holden’s Masonic Lodge, the Ararat Shrine Temple, the Knights of Columbus, (4th Degree), and have been a member of the American Legion for over 30 years. I now live in Pascagoula, Mississippi.
I am the recipient of the Missouri Bar’s Solo and Small Firm Committee’s 2001 Distinguished Service Award, was named the Missouri Junior College Association’s “Alumni Of The Year” for 2004 and was named Missouri Lawyer’s Weekly’s “2008 Missouri Lawyer of the Year”.
